Turbulence is the opening track on REAL, Vol. 1, the joint EP from Wizkid and Asake released January 23, 2026 under Starboy Entertainment, Giran Republic and EMPIRE. The EP is four tracks, produced primarily by Magicsticks with assistance from 4Tunes and LOL — and Turbulence sets the tone for everything that follows.
As an opening track it does exactly what an intro should do. The production is smooth and percussion-led, nothing aggressive, giving both artists space to say what they came to say without competing with the beat. The themes running through the song — gratitude, resilience, staying unbothered under pressure — are delivered with the kind of quiet confidence that comes from two artists who genuinely have nothing left to prove. There's a calm-before-the-storm energy to it that makes you want to hear what comes next on the project.
What makes this collab significant is the labels behind it. Wizkid's Starboy and Asake's Giran Republic — which he founded after leaving YBNL in early 2025 — coming together on the same release is a statement in itself. Both artists choosing to do a joint EP rather than just a single shows a level of creative commitment that goes beyond a casual feature. The music video, directed by Edgar Esteves, dropped a day after the EP and added a cinematic layer to the record's reflective tone.
REAL, Vol. 1 debuted at number one on the Nigerian Albums chart on TurnTable, which tells you the audience was ready for this. Turbulence being the first thing listeners heard on that project was the right call — it eases you in before the rest of the EP shows its full hand. Rating: 8.5/10.
