Tumo Weto is a track from Mavo's debut mixtape Ukanigbe, originally released December 1, 2023 under Kilogbede Records. Mavo — full name Oseremen Marvin Ukanigbe — was born in Ekpoma, Edo State on November 1, 2003 and started making music seriously in 2023. Tumo Weto is from his very first body of work, but the song proved to have significantly longer legs than a typical mixtape cut. It reached number one on Apple Music Nigeria in January 2026 — over two years after it was first released — and peaked at number 13 on the TurnTable Top 100 Songs. That kind of delayed chart performance is rare and says something about the quality of the record.
In Urhobo, Tumo Weto roughly translates to "our people" or "our own" — a phrase of belonging and identity. For an artist from Ekpoma building his career through a series of mixtapes and independent releases, that title is personal. By the time Tumo Weto was charting in early 2026, Mavo had also appeared on the SOUTH GIDI EP with Wizkid and DJ Maphorisa on Money Constant, released Escaladizzy with Wave$tar which got a remix featuring Zlatan, Shallipopi and Ayra Starr, and followed up with Shakabulizzy and Body (Danz) with CKay — his first number one in Nigeria.
Tumo Weto reaching number one over two years after its release is a reminder that the streaming era has changed how songs find their audience. A record does not have to blow up immediately to matter. Rating: 8/10.
