Ruger – REintroduction

REintroduction is the opening track on Ruger's sophomore album BlownBoy Ru, released March 28, 2025 under Blown Boy Entertainment — his first studio album as a fully independent artist after severing ties with D'Prince's Jonzing World in 2024. Produced by Kukbeatz, it runs on a propulsive dancehall rhythm and opens with a western guitar and piano riff that gives way to a drill beat, before the album's defining moment arrives: a Northern band's chant-like refrain that closes out the track in a deliberate nod to the growing wave of Northern sonic influences entering mainstream Nigerian pop.

The NATIVE's review called it one of the best album intro tracks released in recent years, with Ruger declaring "Reintroducing me self, I'm the f***ing Ruger!" and referencing his trajectory from secondary school — "Right from SS3, that's when I knew that I'm gonna be a big star" — with the assurance of someone who never doubted the destination. The49thStreet's review described it as "chest-thumping," with Ruger asserting his four-year reign in lines like "four years later, still Ruger name no spoil." His later line on BlownBoy Anthem — "And I denounce every loyalty to some godfather, this year I'm about me" — is widely read as a direct reference to leaving Jonzing World, with REintroduction setting the tone for that entire declaration from the album's first seconds.
