Davido Ft. YG Marley – Awuke

Awuke is the lead single from Davido's fifth studio album 5ive, released October 31, 2024 under Columbia Records. Featuring YG Marley — grandson of reggae legend Bob Marley — and produced by Mikababeatz and Marvey Muzique, the track blends Afrobeats and Amapiano in the kind of cross-genre move Davido had been perfecting since Timeless. It runs 2 minutes 53 seconds and wastes no time getting to the point.

The YG Marley pairing made immediate sense. His debut single Praise Jah in the Moonlight had broken into the Billboard Hot 100 and reached top ten in the UK and New Zealand — he was not just a famous surname, he had already proven himself commercially on his own. Davido performed an early version of Awuke at Lauryn Hill's Paris concert before the official release, which built anticipation without a formal campaign. When it dropped it hit number 1 on Apple Music Nigeria within 19 hours. It debuted at number 1 on the Official Nigeria Top 100, Davido's third number 1 of 2024, and peaked at number 2 on the UK Afrobeats chart for five weeks. Billboard placed it in the US Afrobeats Songs top 10. Current Spotify streams sit at 60 million.

Awuke means to wake up in Yoruba — and the song carries that energy. It is not a reflective track. It is Davido announcing the arrival of a new era after the commercial and emotional weight of Timeless. The choice to open the 5ive campaign with a Bob Marley descendant on an Amapiano beat was a calculated statement about where Afrobeats sits globally right now. Rating: 8.5/10.
