Asake – Fuji Vibe

Fuji Vibe is a track from Asake's third studio album Lungu Boy, released August 9, 2024 under YBNL Nation and EMPIRE. Produced by Magicsticks and The Compozers, it is one of the most explicitly self-referential tracks on the album — a song about the genre Asake has built his entire career on. Fuji music is a genre of Yoruba popular music that developed in Lagos in the late 1960s, rooted in Were music and the Islamic tradition of waking people before dawn during Ramadan. Asake's genius has been taking that tradition and making it the foundation of music that reaches every corner of the world.

Fuji Vibe is not nostalgic or educational — it is celebratory. It is Asake saying this is what I come from and this is why I sound the way I sound. Magicsticks is one of the producers most responsible for shaping the contemporary Afrobeats sound — his work on Wizkid and Asake's REAL Vol. 1 EP, on Jogodo, confirms that he understands how to build production that bridges street Fuji energy with global pop accessibility. The Compozers bring their live instrumentation sensibility. Together they give Fuji Vibe a production richness that matches the importance of the subject matter.

Rating: 8.5/10.
