10 Hottest Nigerian Artists In 2017 (So Far)
2017 has been an interesting year to far, the year started very slow with not so massive tunes until towards the middle of year when we had massive spree of banger after banger from our favorite artistes.
A bit disappointed though, as we have not seen any Kiss-Daniel-like type of artiste springing up and dictating the sound in the industry. It’s been the well-known hit makers holding down this year so far. Few months to the end of the year and we will like to see surprises.
Only one surprising entry into the scene so far, though in an unsigned or rather unofficial way is – 13 year old Destiny Boy who has impressed with several covers to popular songs.
Let’s dive right into this dirty job, yes dirty job because many of our readers will either like or dislike our compilation, which is very understanding as everyone has their own opinion of who is hot and who isn’t.

10. Simi
Simi has had an exciting year already and she can comfortably fold her hands and watch the remaining part of the year go by . The X3M Music queen started the year on a very good note with the release of the infectious tune Smile For Me and later Joromi which ushered in her album “Simisola“which dropped 8th September 2017. (Amazing album – watch out for our review on Novice2STAR.com).
9. Yemi Alade
Mama Africa as she calls herself, is easily the most hard working female act in Africa. Yemi Alade constantly puts herself out there, extending her fan base more than any female Nigerian act has ever done and it’s paying off for her. The female Afro-pop act signed to Effyzzie Music Group might not be topping the charts in Nigeria but she is sure making waves in other African countries and certainly laughing to the banks
She dropped her 2017 EP – “Mama Afrique’ – Notable songs – Knack Am, Charliee, Marry Me, Get Through This ft Mi Casa.. etc
8. Ycee
Ycee is now a household name and you can’t mention the best new acts without mentioning his name. He has proven to be a force to reckon with in the industry. The song Juice featuring Maleek Berry landed him on the spotlight. He dropped his debut album this year titled “First Wave EP” which has some great songs such; Wavy; Link Up ft Reekado Banks, Bubbly ft Falz. etc.
7. Maleek Berry
Maleek Berry is finally getting the recognition he serves as an artiste, his style is unique and almost no one sounds like him in Nigeria at the moment. The singer dropped several chart topping songs this year, like; 4 Me, Kontrol, Been Calling, Bend It. etc.
6. Runtown
Runtown is one of the most sort-after artiste in 2017 for collaboration and shows across Nigeria and Africa., though when it comes to releasing songs, Runtown has been very conservative. Only one song has been dropped this year, Run For Life ,though we’re expect something new dropping this month (can’t wait). Until then, we’re still rocking his songs and collaborations.
5. Tekno
The countdown starts to hit up from here; Tekno as we all know has been on full rotation since 2016, dropping hit after hit. The young star has being selling out shows/events lately. So far this year he dished out, BE, Samantha,Yawa, GO among another hot collaborations and productions. You can’t have a party with hearing all 4 songs from Tekno (guaranteed)
4. Mr Eazi
The first part of this year, the Nigerian / Ghanaian ( …still deciding) singer Mr Eazi was on fire, with the release of his debut album “Accra To Lagos“. The album has many hit songs like Leg Over, Fight ft DJ Cuppy, Skin Tight ft Mr Tekno, Feelings, Tilapia and Life Is Eazi (feat. Olamide & Phyno).
He released and featured on several songs. He’s been on
the international spotlight very frequently, several big interviews and
of course a lot of sold out shows especially in the UK.
3. Olamide
Olamide is a confirmed hit maker who started up really slow beginning of this year. He dropped a good number of songs but they didn’t deliver the level of impact we’ve come to expect of YBNL boss. He also had some major intentional collaborations: like Fine Girl by Wale… etc. and of course countless* numbers of features locally. He somehow got back his grip and it’s been one banger to another, serving the best of street jams to his fans.
2. Davido
In 2016 Omo Baba Olowo was exploring the international audience / market, he featured international acts and shot expensive videos but however, had no major hits in Africa / Nigeria. By 2017, Davido realized he had to come back to basics, to produce that sound that has made him appealing to everyone and ever since he did that, he has been on the chart with every song he drops. Currently IF and FALL has remained on charts for months. The HKN boss is currently enjoying success, shutting down shows allover the world. without going into much details, he deserves the number 2 position
1. Wizkid
Wizkid needs no introduction nor justification for being on our No. 1. He has been nothing but a hard worker since the beginning of the year. Wizkid went international since 2016 and still counting. He has featured top acts internationally and has also been featured. He has topped billboard charts, radio, blogs. etc. sold out shows around the world.
If anyone deserve to be on our number 1, it’s certainly starboy aka Daddy Yo !
