NEWS: “I Never Said Benin Owned Lagos” – Oba Akiolu Of Lagos Reveals

The Oba of Lagos, Rilwan Akiolu, has come out to debunk claims that he said that the Benin people owned Lagos.
The monarch spoke in Victoria Island, Lagos, at the launch of “Defend the Defenseless”, a book written by Arese Carrington, wife of a former U.S. ambassador to Nigeria, Walter Carrington.
Oba Akiolu was reacting to controversies generated by his earlier remarks that the developmental strides being witnessed in Lagos State was because of the blessings given to it by a past Oba of Benin.
The comment generated debates in the media with many contesting the monarch’s position.
Speaking in an interview with PUNCH, Sammy Adebiyi, a prince of the Akinsemoyin Ruling House of Lagos, who is contesting rights to the throne of Oba of Lagos, said that the Awori are the original owners of Lagos.
Mr. Adebiyi added that neither the Benin nor the Yoruba owned Lagos.
Apparently making reference to reactions generated by his earlier comments, Oba Akiolu on Monday took shots at those who criticised him, saying many of them are not “bonafide sons of Lagos.”
The monarch promised to reply his critics by next year when he begins celebration of his 15th year on the throne as king.
“I never said Bini owned Lagos… but the influence of the Oba of Benin, nobody can wash it away in Lagos,” he said.
“You must have been reading many things in the newspapers. By the grace of God Almighty Allah, next year when I begin to celebrate my 15th anniversary, they will know the kind of person Oba Akiolu is.”
The monarch also commended the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, saying nobody can stop him in his political aspirations.

NEWS: Nigerian Harvard Trained Doctor Saves Lady’s Life On Flight To Lagos (Photos)

We love to celebrate Nigerians that are doing exceptional things and here’s another example of a Nigerian who has done something spectacular.
Harvard trained Nigerian doctor , Adeola Otuyelu , reportedly saved a lady’s life while on a flight to Lagos recently, and the scene was ‘literally out of a movie’.
According to her, she stepped in to save the lady when an announcements rung out for a Dr. because there was a ‘sick’ person on the flight.
Below is how she narrated her ordeal;
‘My flight to Lagos was literally out of a movie! I was sleeping (duh!) when the announcements rung out for a Dr. because there was a ‘sick’ person on the flight. I decided to check out the situation and lo and behold this woman was in full anaphylactic shock with her throat swollen shut gasping for air and she had the biggest hives i had ever seen from head to toe!
I thought to myself ‘okay you were trained for this this’ but the 500 people looking to me to be the ‘hero of the day’ i wasn’t trained for, the deafening scream that belted out when i injected her with epinephrine was nothing i had ever heard before, the panic attack her daughter was suffering at the same time… all of it.
I had to act fast and keep my composure under so much pressure because i knew we didn’t have much time, there was no ER to take her to afterwards so I️ had to treat her for the next 4 hours and i also had to calm everyone else down at the same time. It’s crazy to think i almost rescheduled my flight over a very inconsequential reason. I am so happy God was able to use me to save this woman with a beautiful soul. God just confirmed to me that he will always put me right where i need to be and he is leading me to my purpose!’

NEWS: Dogara reveals Tinubu held Meeting in his Bedroom asking him to Step Down for Gbajabiamila

NEWS: Dogara reveals Tinubu held Meeting in his Bedroom asking him to Step Down for Gbajabiamila

Yakubu Dogara, Speaker of the House of Representatives, in his biography written by Ovation publisher Dele Momodu, revealed a lot of politics that went on behind-the-scenes, The Cable reports.
The biography, titled “A Reed Made Flint,” and touches on how he came to be the speaker of the house of representatives, is set to be released on December 26, 2017.
Dogara reveals that the national leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu called him into a meeting in his bedroom asking him to end his campaign and support Femi Gbajabiamila, who represents Surulere federal constituency, Lagos State. He said:
As a matter of fact, Asiwaju (Tinubu) is someone that we respect very much and no one can doubt the sterling role he played in the emergence of APC as a government. Asiwaju had through emissaries sought audience with me and in deference to him I went to see him along with a colleague, then Right Honourable Kawu Sumaila. When we got to the Asiwaju, seasoned politician that he was, he asked us to come to his bedroom. We held this meeting in his bedroom!
He appealed to us and said what he only wanted, as a leader, as a political father, was for us to please collapse our campaign into Femi’s and declare our support for him. Asiwaju maintained that, as a matter of fact, support for Femi was a support for him. He said if we supported Femi by extension we were actually supporting him and reciprocating the work he did to ensure APC won the Presidency.
He said while he couldn’t turn Tinubu down, he had to find a way around it. He told Tinubu:
This has always been my stand, Sir. It was my stand when (Aminu) Tambuwal was running for the Speakership and I ran for the position for Deputy Speaker. Even when my bosom friends had told me clearly what was happening and I knew, as an experienced politician, that we were running into head winds.
I had seen clearly the implication that Tambuwal was favoured more than 80% to clinch the Speakership. But I insisted that I was going to run because the party had said they had zoned this position to the North-East and I wanted to make a statement that there were people from the North-East willing to contend for this position in the interest of our own people.
Even if I was going to lose the election, let the people from my zone know that yes, they had someone who, when the position was zoned to them, was ready and willing to stand up and be counted. I ran for that position to the end against someone I considered to be a brother and a very good friend on that principle. In this situation, we are already boxed into that corner.
The President is not from North-East, the Vice President is not from North-East, the Senate President wasn’t going to come from the North-East. If we from the North east now capitulate, we have not had anything serious apart from the position of the Vice President that Atiku once occupied. We have been excluded from this club of leadership in the country.
Since you have appealed to me as a father figure and I see you as a political father and as a mentor, a person we always ran to for advice really in the seventh assembly, and I still remember so many occasions I had to come here to seek assistance on behalf of others from you, I owe you the responsibility to listen to your appeal.
But I need to get back to the members who are supportive of my agenda and then to my constituents back home. We will discuss and at the end of the day I will get back to you with our decision.
Dogara went on to defeat Gbajabiamila, who later became the House leader

The #EndSars hashtag continues to trend on social media as several citizens of Nigeria continue to call for the scrapping of the Police arm which has allegedly terrorized Nigerians across the country.
An Imo State Commissioner has shared his terrible ordeal in the hands of Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) operatives as he travelled with a bunch of his friends.
He took to Facebook to share how he was robbed of money and valuables. See his post below:

GOOD A THING THAT THE IG OF POLICE HAS SAID HE WAS GOING TO REORGANIZE THE SARS DEPT OF THE POLICE AFTER SERIES OF INNOCENT CITIZENS WHO WENT THROUGH HELL IN THE HANDS OF THESE SARS OFFICERS STARTED SHOUTING OUT. TODAY I AND MY SPORTS COLLEAGUE TRAVELLING TO LAGOS FOR AG MEETING OF THE NIGERIA CRICKET FEDERATION WAS ROBBED BY THESE SO CALLED SARSOFFICERS ALONG ASABA TO BENIN EXPRESSWAY. THE CP OF EDO SHOULD LOOK INTO THIS MATTER AND FIND THIS GROUP OF POLICE OFFICERS WHO CONTINUE TO DISGRACE THE POLICE FORCE. FOR 2HRS WE WERE HELD HOSTAGE WITH HANDCUFFS NOT MINDING THAT I IDENTIFIED MYSELF AS A COMMISSIONER IN IMO STATE. EVERY MONEY FOUND ON US AND IN OUR BAGS WERE TAKEN, MY WRIST WATCH WAS TAKEN, MY PEPPER SPRAY WAS TAKEN, OTHER VALUABLES WERE TAKEN TOO. SO MANY TIMES DURING THIS ORDEAL GUNS WERE CORKED AND WE WERE TOLD THAT THEY WILL SHOOT US DEAD AND NOTHING WILL HAPPEN. OUR PHONES WERE TAKEN AWAY FROM US, SO THAT WE CAN’T MAKE ANY CALL, THE PLACE WAS SO LONELY AND THEY FORCED US TO PARK WHERE THEIR HIDDEN CAR WAS PARKED. A BROWN CAMRY WRITTEN POLICE BY THE TWO SIDES OF IT. FROM THAT POINT WERE WE ARE, YOU WILL NOT SEE A PASSING CAR APPROACH TILL IT VOOMS PAST. YOU WILL IMAGINE WHEN THEY EVENTUALLY TOLD US TO GO AND I REMINDED THE ONE THEY WERE CALLING COMMANDER THAT WE HAD NO OTHER MONEY WITH US, THE SIX OF THEM STARTED DEBATING HOW MUCH SHOULD BE GIVEN TO US, AFTER ABOUT 10MINUTES ONE BROUGHT 3,500 OUT OF OVER 40,000 THEY TOOK. AS WE WERE STILL WITH THE ONE WHO BROUGHT THE MONEY, ANOTHER OFFICER CAME WITH AN EXTRA 1,500 AND ADDED. WE WERE NOW BEEN FORCED TO DRIVE OFF. EVEN WHEN WE NOTICED THAT OIL WAS DROPPING FROM OUR CAR AND WANTED TO CHECK. THEY REFUSED AND TOLD US TO GO TO SOMEWHERE ELSE AND DO THE REPAIRS. IF AT MY LEVEL AND STATUS, I GOT SUCH TREATMENT, I WONDER WHAT OUR INNOCENT CITIZENS ARE SEEING OUT THERE. IG SIR, PLS SOME OF THESE BAD EGGS SHOULD BE CAREFULLY REMOVED FROM THE POLICE FORCE TO BRING SANITY. NIGERIA MUST BE BETTER.

The Imo State Assembly has endorsed Uche Nwosu, the son-in-law of Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha, for governor come 2019, Punch reports.
Okorocha had in an interview said he sees nothing wrong in his kin succeeding him as governor of the state.
Nwosu, who is currently Okorocha’s Chief of Staff, was endorsed by the lawmakers as the most qualified to take over from his father-in-law.
According to Punch, the House Committee Chairman on Petroleum, Imo State Oil Producing Areas Development Commission, and Niger Delta Development Commission, Henry Ezediaro, made the announcement at a press conference in Owerri. He said:
After meeting with the members of the House of Assembly, we, irrespective of party affiliations, have endorsed Ugwumba Uche Nwosu. We urge him to contest the poll. If he does, we will support him to be the governor in 2019.
On behalf of the lawmakers, we want to use this medium to appeal to the governor and thank him for his free education policy in the state, but without Uche Nwosu, the policy may die and that is why we want him to continue from where he will stop
